Eli's Ear Tube Surgery and Recovery

Donation protected
Hi Friends,

We are very reluctant to be doing this, and a bit embarrassed, but we have found ourselves in a bit of a predicament and could use a little help.

Eli has been struggling with regular ear infections since he was about nine months old. At first they were fairly spread out and manageable, but then they became more frequent and difficult to treat. Since the beginning of this year he has had a near constant ear infection that seems to be resistant to many of the antibiotics that we have tried.

We have finally been able to work with an ENT, it took much longer than we would have liked to get an appointment. They are recommending that we have tubes put in, which should nearly eliminate the ear infections, and we are on board with that. They have also let us know that there is fluid trapped in his ears and it is likely causing some mild hearing loss, which in turn is affecting his speech development. Because of this and the non-stop antibiotic resistant infections, they would like to get the tubes in as soon as possible. We are scheduled for surgery on April 6.

Here is where things get difficult. According to Eli's insurance provider, we are looking at about $2,500 out of pocket in order for this surgery to happen. (Update: after talking to the surgical center we learned that it will actually cost us nearly $3000 for the surgery.) All of the trips to the pediatrician, ENT, and audiologist have cost us nearly a thousand dollars in the past month as the bills start to come in. We are also going to have pre and post operation appointments in the next month and regular follow-ups with the ENT that will likely cost a few hundred dollars. Eli's insurance does not start covering his costs until we hit the five thousand dollar annual deductible.

On top of these medical concerns, our only car has broken down this week and we just learned today that it requires repairs that will cost us at least two thousand dollars. This was very unexpected and why we are in crisis mode at the moment.

We feel badly asking for assistance, normally we could handle one of these crises at a time. Both at once is very challenging and we want to make sure that we can pay for Eli's surgery, pre and post op appointments, and still pay our bills. Unfortunately we only have the one car and rely on it to get him to daycare and me to work, so we need to take care of that too. It's very hard for us to admit that we need help, but we also need to go forward with this surgery and end this awful cycle of illness for Eli. Any bit of help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
