E.C.T. Youth: ELCA Youth Gathering

ABOUT THE CAUSE:
All proceeds will help send 12 of our youth group high schoolers to Houston, Texas this June for the triennial ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) Youth Gathering, as well as to the Multicultural Youth Leadership Event, which seeks to empower youth of color and multicultural youth groups to be leaders who work for peace and justice.
This is a powerful and life-changing event, where our youth will gather with 30,000+ other Lutheran youth for worship, to listen to amazing speakings (past speakers have included Nobel Peace Prize recipients and people involved in Civil Rights Movement, etc) and justice and service learning in and around Houston.
This is an especially life-changing event for the E.C.T youth group, many of whom have limited financial means and have few opportunities to participate in fun and positive activities, get out of the city, and experience new places outside of Chicago. One of the E.C.T. youth who attended a previous Youth Gathering explained that “it was the highlight of my life.”
The total estimated cost of the Youth Gathering and the Multicultural Youth Leadership Event is $20,300. (Registration fees for the Youth Gathering and registration for the Multicultural Youth Leadership Event, food for 9 days, housing, and transportation to/from Houston.)
The group has received almost $15,000 in grants, scholarship funds, fundraising efforts, and family contributions and still needs to raise $5,500.
***All of the E.CT. youth will be on partial scholarship and most of them will be on full scholarship.
