Help Elad Omer and Children Displaced By War
Donation protected
Elad Omer is a dear friend to many and a truly great human. He seems to posses a heart that is endlessly big and open to all. As the war in Israel displaced huge numbers of children and families he has worked to bring some joy and happiness into their difficult lives by volunteering his time, money and equipment to take them outside to climb and play. Unfortunately, his equipment and funds are running low. Any amount donated will make a difference to many children and families. Elad's words about the situation are below.
About a month ago with the arrival of tens of thousands of families evacuated to Eilat and the regional council of Hevel Eilot we voluntarily initiated climbing and rappelling activities in Timna Park.
It all started spontaneously with a few families who contacted us and spread around by word of mouth. Families evacuated from their homes- kids, teenagers and their parents come for a few hours of rock climbing and rappelling, fun and challenge and mostly- temporary sanity in the magical desert of Timna.
We see the participants. With some of them we have the opportunity to talk about what they went through (it is imperceptible and incomprehensible). They give us positive feedback about how our time together in the desert is so precious and meaningful to them.
That moment when you are high up on a cliff, excited and concentrated climbing up provides them with a few sane hours and enables them to focus on the present, experience the moment and think about other things aside from the atrocities they walk along with since that black Shabbat.
That is why it is important to us to continue to lead these activities.
Since the demand has gone up, the number of participants gone up and so has the demand for more guides- we are unable to continue and do this work voluntarily and independently sponsor it.
What we currently mostly need is technical climbing and rappelling gear: helmets, ropes, harnesses, climbing short etc.
We continue to lead these activities four times a week using our personal gear. However due to heavy usage in the past five the wear and tear of the gear is significant and it will not last much longer.
We are at the point where we need to purchase additional gear to replace the existing one and we will highly appreciate any support.
