Travel & Food Costs at Gen Con 2023

If you're here, you're most likely following the link in the Youtube video. If this catches the eyes of other folks I'll be very surprised, but humbled too that you found this here.

To give a little background how this started up, back in April I was given an opportunity to do a few things at Gen Con 2023. This is a major tabletop gaming convention up in IN. I had went back and forth if I should do this trip, until I got the answer on something I really wanted to do. No spoilers on that, just know yes, it's nerdy.

I've seen an almost scary amount of attention since last September, mostly in the Sci-fi tabletop scene. This convention would be the first of it's kind I am aiming to attend, and I am honestly setting this up at the recommendation of more than one person who knows I am going to try to go.

Now this is not going to be some leisure trip, I am aiming to go to work. It's just this call was a very short notice one by me, and raising funds to make the trip has not gone entirely the way I had hoped just due to time.

If I do manage to go, there are already individuals I aim to interview, games to check out and review, and also to see what other bits of interesting information I may be able to come across. I already know I am gonna have trouble sitting still at this convention, but that's part of what's exciting about it. I always like seeing what new thing I can uncover to share with people.

The funds are purely going towards lodging, travel, and food/drink. I don't need tickets for the convention, I have already been approved for those. I also do not need to buy any kind of equipment, I already own what I need to interview people in the field. I am expecting almost all of this to go towards lodging, due to the short notice nature of the trip.

Anything unused for the funds will go into improving the work I am already doing on the channel itself. I've never needed much to do what I do already on Youtube, but if I can make it nicer for others, I'm all ears. This is more about just being able to get there, and really see what can happen.

I don't expect to need more than $5,000 for the trip, but I set the goal to be $4,000 as that is the absolute lowest I need to pull off both lodging and travel.
