Marti's funeral expenses

Last Saturday, Marti Shields-Bearden was at a restaurant when she choked. No one helped her and it took the ambulance 15 minutes to get there. By the time EMS arrived, she was pulseless. At the hospital she was medicated and put on a ventilator. Family drove hours to stay by her side through the ordeal. A neurologist was finally available Monday morning, who said he saw only minimal brain activity up to the mid brainstem level.

By Wednesday evening, the decision was made to take out her breathing tube. She breathed on her own for a few hours then stopped as if a switch had been turned off. Her mother, twin sister, 12-year-old daughter, and other loved ones were by her side.

Unfortunately, Marti did not have life insurance and the family is now faced with unexpected funeral expenses. All money raised will go directly to expenses for the funeral, planned in part by her daughter.
