November 23, 2013 is a day our family will never forget - our mom was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer. Nobody can prepare themselves for something like this. Ten months, several rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, bad days, and dozens of trips to Dana Farber later, and the whole thing still feels like a nightmare. We have watched our young and vibrant mom not be able to leave the house, sleep for days, feel ill, be in pain, and endure every feeling imaginable. There is no worse and more helpless feeling than watching someone you love go through something like cancer - it is truly paralyzing.
Along with the endless emotion and effects of treatment, the burden of medical and household bills is growing. Normal bills that would not be thought twice about have become overwhelming now that she is unable to work and has lost her income. With a new treatment starting, there will only be more to come.
Anyone that knows our mom, knows the kind of person she is - happy, caring, giving, positive and funny - beautiful on the inside and out. An amazing mother of two, a great wife, and a proud Nana to our little Christian, she is the type of person that people gravitate toward. This cancer has changed everything about her life. My mother does not like being the center of attention, when she is so used to taking care of everyone else. She does not ask for help, but we will - because if my sister and I can ease just part of the stress that this cancer has caused, then it will be worth it. For a woman that has done nothing but give her entire life, we are asking you to help us lessen her burden.
My sister and I will be holding a benefit for Mom to help ease some of the stress. However, due to the absolutely wonderful and overwhelming response from family, friends, and people that know and love our mom, it is impossible to accomodate that many guests. So many have asked how they can help, so we have set up this page to accept donations.
We cannot thank everyone enough for the prayers, well wishes, cards, flowers, emails and facebook messages over the last ten months. It really does confirm what we already knew - our mother is a remarkable person who has touched a lot of people.
