Saving Salem

Donation protected
I was driving a friend purchase her new puppy in Oshawa. I was fostering guide dogs at the time and was happy to help her collect her dog and give her training tips.  On the way we passed Salem road in Oshawa. I told her- "that’s a great name for a pet- my next pet will be Salem" Envisioning a goldfish or perhaps a kitty Cat.
When we reached the home to meet her dog, we were surrounded by crazy little maniac dashi puppies. They ran around and yapped and bit my ears and pulled my hair.
One little dashy- black as the night, came and lay in my lap and put his head down. He wouldn’t play, he wouldn’t run, he just lay there. The owners and my friend looked at me expectedly: "I think that dog has chosen you"

Salem barfed the whole way home.

Since then we have been on great adventures together. I have kept him healthy and strong- and on more than one occasion Salem has kept me alive.

Those of you who know him, know that he is full of love. He would always somehow sense who was suffering in a group of people and go kindly sit with them- absorbing their pain and replacing it with love.

Salem came out of the lake after joyously chasing after a ball and he was limping. We slowed down and gave him a break. By dinner he was dragging both legs behind him.  I stayed up all night watching him and rubbing his belly.

By 8am he couldn’t sit up or walk. I lifted his bum to help him pee. I rushed him to the closest Vet. They did not have the equipment to see what was happing to him. I went to an emergency vet in Scarborough.  $500 later I am told he needs surgery. They suggest to do it immediately to avoid total paralysis and alleviate the pain.

If Salem was dying, I would lie with him till his last breath. If he was just paralyzed I would put him in a kick ass wheel chair. But he is in pain. He needs the surgery to alleviate the pain.

The surgery needs to be done AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.

Any friends or family- especially if you know Salem- please would you help us.

For those of you who know me- I will not take this lightly and anything in the future I can do to return your help I will jump to! That includes my time, my skills, my blood- (O negative) If there is something I can barter with you I will.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and I hope you will consider helping my sweet sweet boy.
