My name is Lyra Halsten and I'm a student at Simpson College. I'm part of the Continuing and Graduate Program and I've had an amazing experience! I'm passionate about learning and have a 3.88 GPA. Recently, I was inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor society for adult students.
I'm also passionate about the performing arts and ministry. I founded my own theatre company and in order to best serve it, I'm pursuing an independent Arts Management major. Using the Arts Management minor that Simpson offers as a base, I added additional business and arts classes to build my program. In April, I successfully defended it to Simpson's educational policy committee and I'm on track to graduate in May 2021! I will be attending graduate school after earning my BA degree; I'm in the process of applying to Meadville Lombard Theological School to pursue an Masters of Divinity in order to become a Unitarian Universalist minister.
I'm raising money for my tuition. All of my Federal student aid funds have been used and I'm also seeking funding through scholarships and opportunities such as Americorps. Most urgently, I need assistance for the two summer classes that I'm taking in order to stay on track to graduation. The tuition comes to $3,336.00. The tuition for both classes totals $3,120. I also have online course and technology user fees of $160 and $56, respectively. My summer tuition is due on June 1, 2020. I haven't yet received statements of what my fall and spring classes will cost; once I get additional information, I'll post an update. Right now, I just want to raise my summer tuition of $3,336.00.
I have dreamed about the day I earn my BA degree. Members of my family doubted this was possible for me; some actually told me I was a failure and that I would never be successful. Getting this far has shown me that they were wrong and taught me to believe in myself! Being this close to finishing my BA only to have to stop I before crossing that line would devastate me. I would be so appreciative of your help and eternally grateful for your generosity! Thank you!
