Education Fundraiser for the needy in Anlo land

Goal: To provide computers for ICT teaching and learning in elementary schools and scholarships to enable needy but brilliant students to pursue their university, vocational, or technical education.

The Anlo Education Trust Fund (AETF)was established in November 2009, to support the improvement in educational attainment in the Anlo traditional area of the Volta Region of Ghana in West Africa. A Board of Trustees made up of notable and committed citizens from the area, was established to guide the operations of the Trust Fund.

The social, economic, and political conditions of the Anlo people have declined since the 1990s. Sources of income, mostly driven by fishing and farming, have been significantly impacted by environmental/climatic changes.

Most of the coastal land has been destroyed by persistent coastal erosion and the rising sea levels make fishing activities hazardous. Farming and fishing activities are no longer as lucrative as they once were.

Increasing poverty levels remain a threat to the livelihood of the local communities, and most parents simply cannot afford to fund their children’s education beyond the basic elementary level. This has led to a sharp decline in enrollment into schools as well as retention of students at higher levels.

To contribute to addressing the challenges mentioned above, the AETF was established to raise funds to support the schools and needy children to improve the educational performance of the youth of the Anlo Traditional area, noting that education is the KEY to human development.

100% of all contributions will go directly towards developing programs to encourage attendance/retention of students and to support students to pursue opportunities in higher education.
