Education for Kyla

Hi, thanks for taking the time to click on me. My name is Kyla.

I am a recent Graduate of Law (1st Class Honours) hoping to pursue my Master in Criminology at the University of London. I'm from Antigua & Barbuda & the first in my family to go to University despite the hardships.

Going from a small village primary school to attending the top secondary school on the island, I have persevered and remained a top student academically and socially through to University.

Alongside my studies, I have participated in many sports including netball, basketball, track & field, football; playing three at a national level. I have received  awards for my contributions in extracurricular activities at different levels from primary, secondary, and tertiary education and also a national award for academic performance.

Recently, I received three awards at my University for my outstanding contributions to Society development, successful student engagement and for outstanding contribution to education during my three years as an undergraduate student. I have represented my student body at a local and national level in efforts to make changes to our experiences as students.

In my free time, I have volunteered with NGOs advocating for youth & gender affairs. During my gap year I did an unpaided internship with an organisation that is committed to supporting victims of Gender Based Violence, they've established a crisis hotline and centre to support and created research projects that have changed laws in my country. I've also been a mentor to other students and young people throughout Secondary school to university.

I have realised that if I wish to continue my studies I must take charge and pave my own way. I am hoping to successfully raise the £13,000 needed to fund my tuition and part of my living expenses to start the new chapter of my life soon.

As an international student, I am ineligible for another scholarship from my home country as I received one for my undergraduate degree. I am unable to access student loans to fund my degree as I do not have the right credit and my parents do not meet the criteria for a successful loan.

While studying for my undergraduate, my country was hit by major hurricanes back in 2017, my country is still recovering to this day. My mother's home was damaged, taking the roof from her home and my father who is a farmer lost majority of his crops, despite all this they made ends meet for me to complete the last two years of my undergraduate degree while still proving for the rest of my family.

The Total cost of my Tuition is £13000, to which I have secured half

For your reference the September 2020 intake for  International Tuition Fees, click here.

The remaining money will be put towards rent, living expenses.

In line with UK Visa  regulations I must have £11,385 for maintenance (accommodation and expenses) as a student studying in London.

Please do reach out to me if you have/require:

Any clarifications
Proof of documentation
Any potential solutions
Access to loans
Anything that can help

Deciding to crowd fund is a final attempt for me to find the support I need. Being brave and putting on a strong face is something I would usually do but being open about myself is something I have recently started to work on.

Having been raised and mentored by strong female role models I have always been encourage to be the best me I can be, given the chance with this degree and skillset, I will continue to dedicate my life to helping others.

I really want to say how grateful I am in advance for any support you're able to give, no matter how small. Your contribution will help to keep my dream alive as I educate myself and make my family proud.

Thank you!
