Education and Visitor Experience

The Kamloops Heritage Railway Society was founded in 1994 and has become a beloved experience for families from near and far! Our objective is to educate, entertain and enrich, but mostly we like to have fun! We're mostly known for our rail tours experience aboard our heritage train cars pulled by our one-of-a-kind steam engine! But over the years we've amassed a collection of vintage rail cars and railway equipment, which has led us to the vision of having a second experience to offer families. We are currently developing a number of programs to ensure we meet that objective. a new back shop tours experience, that will allow us to share our rail cars, equipment and their stories with all who are interested in coming by for a tour! 

We are working on developing an Education Program that will be primarily geared towards grades 2-7, but will have a flexible curriculum that can be adapted to any education level right through to university.  

In order to achieve our vision of preserving railway history and educating future generations, we are asking for those near and far who are able to help us financially, big or small, it all helps! Some of our plans are big, some of our plans are small, but all require money to make it happen. As a small charity organization we operate on limited funds, and due to the COVID19 pandemic we have seen our revenues disappear as we needed to cancel our 2020 railtours season. 

But onto the exciting part, the plans and the vision! 

We are looking to convert a decommissioned passenger car  into an historic railcar schoolroom. This car will become a static space used to deliver our education program and double as an amazing display for all visitors to our Backshop facility.
