From the slums to the future

Donation protected
As a teacher since 2009 I have always enjoyed having a safe place to teach. I have never been without the basic necessities in any of the several schools I have worked in however this is not the case everywhere in the world.

In my recent trip to Pakistan I came across a teacher who was teaching approximately 30 kids everyday in a town close to my house.

I would see him regularly in fact and my curiosity grew.

I wanted to know more about him and his reason for doing this selfless act of humanity. I decided that the next time I drove past I would have the driver stop the car so I could find out more.

I walked over and exchanged my greeting. He mentioned how he had been coming here for several months and teaching the children free of charge. He mentioned that these children ranging from 4-11 were from the slum next to the open land on which we stood.

I immediately enquired more and realised what he had achieved was phenomenal, without little support he had held the fort all by himself. The equipment which was primitive at best was allowing these poor children, many of them without shoes a chance to read and write and an opportunity to prepare for the future.

I walked around and saw these children were not at fault, I felt helpless and determined that I needed to do more. So I asked him if I could help. He told me he was in need of stationary and shelter but in reality these children were in need and are in need of going to school and I intend to ensure each and every one of them goes. However, this task is too big for me alone. I need your help.

I want to help these children and their families gain some respect and fulfill their basic human rights and to do this I want to raise a minimum of £10'000.

100% of all money raised will go towards buying equipment, educational resources, and the maintenance of a new tent which has been erected to protect the children from the hot weather. I will also be spending money on the childrens clothing.

Over the past two years I have been to the refugee camps in northern Greece 3 times and raised just over £12'000. I know people care about the world in which we live and share. As an educator and foremost a human being I appeal to all of you with a huge heart to help improve the future lives of these children.

In all my charity ventures I have never spent a single penny on personal expenses. Plane tickets, accommodation and or car hire have always been paid through personal expenses because I have always believed in giving 100% of my donations.

To make this happen, I am trekking to Everest Base camp in Nepal. I will be flying into Lukla airport on the 1st of April to begin my ascent.

I am spending upto 3k of my own money on this trip. However, I am sure you will agree that no amount can be placed on educating a child. What these children will gain is nothing in comparison to the little I spend in their way.

Walking upto a height above 5000 metres is no small task and I understand the risks involved. I have invested time, money and a lot of thought into this. I thought long and hard about all the causes to raise money for and after seeing these children sitting innocently on the dusty ground I realised that perhaps God had made my decision for me.

I have always believed in education in all its forms. I know how empowering it is to prepare a child for their future and I can only hope you feel the same way as myself.
