Educating Our Future Leaders

Once in awhile you come across something beautiful and even with everything going on in this world, it gives you hope. Meet Pink Girl, an NGO that started about 5 years ago and that is working so hard to educate underprivileged girls from 7-12th grade. When Pink Girl first started they had 15 girls and now they are up to 240! Initially they had 5 girls entering the university and now they have 80 and their batting average for getting these incredible girls into universities across Ethiopia is over 98%. The U.S. Embassy has credited them of being the most successful organization in the country.

 

I am a firm believer that we as a society have an obligation to give kids the world and education is certainly a perfect place to start. I am currently teaching Spoken English (among other things) and there are about 12 other teachers in two campuses that are teaching other subjects. These girls are incredibly smart, driven to succeed in life, and prove to the world that they are just as capable as boys. When I asked them what they would like to do when they grow up, their responses were doctors, midwives, teachers, lawyers, engineers and everything else in between, one of them even wants to work on the science behind sending people to Mars. It is an honor of a lifetime to work with these girls and it is an experience that I will always cherish. 

Since I will be turning 29 years old (yeah I can’t believe it either) I am asking you to donate $29 dollars. Currently 1 dollar = 27 birr (Ethiopian currency) so when they say every bit helps, this is what they are talking about. I PROMISE you that I will personally see to it that your donation goes directly to helping these girls.
