Edinburgh NHS Heroes Taxi Fund

With your help, City Cabs Edinburgh would like to provide a completely free transport option for our Edinburgh NHS heroes during the tough times ahead. City Cabs Edinburgh will match each donation doubling the fund and doubling the number of free journeys that we can provide to our heroes.
As the number of COVID-19 cases surge drastically over the coming days and weeks, the pressure will be felt by our amazing NHS staff who are putting themselves on the front line to save lives and keep us safe. Our heroes will be working long shifts and tiring hours as the pandemic unfolds across the country.
Public bus timetables have been significantly decreased with some services being completely removed from operation. For our NHS staff who do not drive, this will only make getting to hospital more difficult and time consuming and ultimately reduce the amount of time they have for rest between exhausting shifts.
With your support, we want to ensure that our heroes are not delayed while getting to hospital or heading home to rest with their families. From the beginning of the pandemic, City Cabs Edinburgh introduced a 40% discount for our NHS heroes but with your assistance, we can go further than this.
Some of our drivers have already been providing free transport on their own accord but we appreciate that this is not a viable long-term solution. With your support and kind generosity, we can ensure that our NHS heroes have a safe and speedy travel option at no cost while our drivers can continue to provide this brilliant service with the highest possible standard.
City Cabs Edinburgh is a co-operative, owned and operated by its drivers and we have always been committed to supporting our community. To show our commitment to this initiative, City Cabs Edinburgh will match each donation, doubling the fund and doubling the number of free journeys that we can provide to our heroes.
Our Taxis are a safe travel option for our heroes with the following benefits:
· A distance between driver and passenger which promotes social distancing.
· A partition between driver and passenger further enhancing protection.
· Our taxis are regularly cleaned and sanitised.
· Most of our vehicles have automatic doors reducing the need for contact. Those which are not automatic are opened by the driver on request.
100% of the funds raised will be used to provide this free service for our heroes. Any unused funds which remain after the pandemic subsides will be donated equally between the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Maggie’s Centre Edinburgh. The total contribution matched by City Cabs Edinburgh will have an upper cap limit of £10,000.
City Cabs Edinburgh are immensely proud to serve our fine city as we have done since 1925. We’re confident that during the tough times ahead, the amazing community spirit demonstrated by the residents of our fine city will serve us all very well indeed.
As the fund becomes operational, we'll provide regular updates of how the fund is helping our NHS heroes.

If you are working on the front-line directly dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and you think you could benefit from this fund, please read the terms & conditions then follow the instructions below to order a free taxi:
Terms & Conditions:
This facility is only available to NHS staff who are working directly on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are an NHS member of staff not directly working on the front-line, City cabs will gladly provide you with 40% discount on every fare. Simply request this by telephone and quote ‘Code 40’.
Bookings can only be made to or from your home and to or from an Edinburgh NHS hospital or facility directly dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and within the Edinburgh boundary.
Only a single journey can be booked at any one time.
Please respect the goodwill of the fund. Only use if necessary, E.g. occasional use, when other transport is difficult, late at night, early morning etc.
Free journeys are subject to available funds as per the fundraising campaign.
The decision of City Cabs management will be final.
