Eden Place Nature Center Building

Tax deductible
Eden Place Nature Center stands testament to the resilience of Chicago residents and the urban environment. Once an illegal dumpsite, Eden Place is now an organic farm and nature center serving residents of the Fuller Park neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. Managed by CEO and community leader Michael Howard, Eden Place provides opportunities for south side residents and children to interact with animals and till the soil of vegetable gardens. 20 years after its initial opening, Eden Place remains dedicated to growing opportunities for learning, recreation, health, and employment in areas of nature conservation and urban agriculture. In recognition of Eden Place's success, they have been awarded the EPA Native Prairie Award and was designated by Governor Quinn as the Monarch Butterfly Learning Center for Illinois.

The continued success of Eden Place and multiple meetings with neighborhood residents, led to the design of a state of the art learning center; however, the project has stalled because Illinois has yet to send Grant funds. Ioannis Davis of ID Architecture worked with Ozinga Ready Mix and NuDura to design an Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) facility that will provide many long term benefits to the organization and community. Some of the benefits of ICF construction include minimal long term maintenance costs, greatly reduced energy costs, greatly reduced sound transmission which is important due to the buildings location near rail road tracks, and a structure strong enough to act as a severe weather shelter for the local community. The foundation and floors are already in place for the new building, but we need your help to complete the learning center.

The multi-purpose facility will offer classrooms, a community gathering space, and a community coffee shop. The plans also include provisions for a green roof and solar panels for additional learning opportunities. This highly sustainable learning center will expand the opportunities available to local residents and embody the resilience of the Fuller Park community. Please help restart this building project by donating what you can and by sharing the campaign with others. We appreciate all your help.
