It's been a very frustrating ordeal for my parents since their home was destroyed by an uninsured driver last May. One minute you have your home paid for and retirement plans all set, then the next a truck knocks you halfway across the living room and renders you homeless.

This man should have never been behind the wheel of a vehicle and has gotten away with a slap on the wrist. Who knows, he may still be driving around in vehicles he doesn't own, without insurance and without medication.

It is certainly a gut punch to know that my parents are going to have to pay for this guys mistake the rest of their lives and this guy just gets to walk away.

After the accident, the city condemned their home and were only able to retrieve what the fire department was able to carry out which was basically some clothes and medication. Then to add insult to injury, within a few days, their condemned home was burglarized and many valuables and family heirlooms were stolen. Another police report was filed and as can be expected with most property crime, nothing has come of it.

After several people asked how they could help, I have created this account so you can help my mom and dad pay down the $97,000 loan they had to take out in order to replace their previously paid for home. This amount is not even half of what this has ended up costing my parents overall. At the request of the prosecuting attorney, dad put together an itemized list of their expenses and it totaled nearly $200,000. This list was never even viewed by the judge in the case against the offender. In fact, mom and dad weren't even allowed in the courtroom for the hearing. I am sure there is some kind of reason why, but it sure doesn't seem reasonable at this point.

This is money that my parents had been saving to fund their retirement and now, due to no fault of their own, have to continue to work and sacrifice due to the negligence of an individual who was driving without insurance and has no way to ever repay for the damages he caused.

I asked mom and dad if it would be okay to set this account up and after a lengthy discussion they gave me their permission.

Any help you can give them would be greatly appreciated.
