Costa Rica Study Abroad Trip

Hey everyone,

A little introduction for those who don't know me - I am Liz Franklin. I am currently in the last year of my Associate of Science Transfer degree at Portland Community College. In the fall I will be transferring to Portland State University to complete my Bachelor's of Social Work Degree with a minor in Spanish. It is my dream to be a therapist for disadvantaged youth and their families. 

This August, I have an incredible opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica for field ecology and environmental science. As everyone knows, science has never really been 'my thing,' with that being said, I am excited to take on new challenges academically and physically during this trip. I am going to minor in Spanish and this trip will allow me to be fully immersed in the Spanish language and culture of Costa Rica. It also allows me to reward myself for accomplishing two years of 12-credit a term classes while maintaining a full-time job working overnights. 

The fund-raised money will help pay for program fees, flight, and trip expenses. 

Activities during my trip include:
- A Forest Night hike
- Coffee plantation tour
- Hands on experience with turtle conservation and beach ecology
- Snorkeling
- Visit to Arenal Volcano

Research Stations and Parks I will be visiting/staying in:
Tirimbina Biological Reserve
Santa Rosa National Park
CIEE’s Global Institute – Monteverde

Travelling abroad has been a dream since I was a kid and I appreciate everyone who can help contribute a little something to make this happen!
