Hello,
My name is Ebun Azeez and I recently received an offer to complete the Bachelor of Civil Law programme at the University of Oxford. This is a one-year postgraduate degree and I will be a part of the Pembroke College. I am raising £31,087 to cover the tuition and college fees for this programme.
A little bit about me
In 2017, I graduated with a first-class law degree at the age of 19 against all odds. I have maintained a track-record of academic excellence, despite my struggles with the financial demands of my degree together with my health.
During my degree, I worked multiple jobs including being a Team Member at Burger King and an Accommodation Assistant. I also held numerous paid and unpaid positions at my university which led to being awarded the Student Employee of the Year. So far, I have gained legal experience through a range of internships and shadowing opportunities. These have reinforced my determination to pursue a career as a lawyer.
My financial situation in 2017 left me with no choice but to halt my legal education after graduating. So, I decided it was best to spend my sabbatical year doing one of the things that I am passionate about by becoming a Vice-President in my Students’ Union. Representing the voice of the 22,000 students at my university is something which I have thoroughly enjoyed doing. However, it is now time for me to pursue my dreams and I can be a step closer with your help.
My community ethos
I am an active member of the community with a passion for causes related to education, youth and female empowerment. In the past, I have volunteered at charity shops that support orphaned children around the world, I independently organised and ran a bake sale to raise funds for London Legal Support Trust and I have volunteered at my local debt advice centre.
I am a proud Brownie leader for my local Brownie Guide group where I actively help in the running of sessions for young girls. My passion for the development of girls fuelled my decision to co-create a social project called Girls in Leadership. This project recently received funding from 02 (Telefonica).
Being a young black muslim woman, I have contributed to the national conversations surrounding race diversity. For example, I was a panellist for the Elevation Networks Great Debate Tour in celebration of Black History Month for Sussex and Brighton universities. Here, I discussed the societal progress and challenges of BME students, especially in higher education.

What is the BCL?
Oxford’s BCL degree is the most highly regarded taught masters-level qualification in the common law world. Only those with outstanding first law degrees are admitted. It is the only graduate law degrees in the world that is taught through tutorials, as well as seminars and lectures.
Most importantly, it provides students with the opportunity to interact with finest legal scholars from around the world. This would of course challenge the students ability to analyse complex material critically and consider it from different perspectives.
How will the BCL aid my aspirations?
Attending the University of Oxford and becoming a world-leading lawyer are dreams that I have nurtured since childhood. The BCL is one of the most prestigious postgraduate programmes in the world and I am fortunate to be one of the 99 people selected for the programme out of the 566 applicants.
The BCL fits into my aspiration owing to its record of excellence and unrivalled academic rigour. Completing the programme will undoubtedly enhance my intellectual capabilities, expose me to both challenges and opportunities where I can indepthly explore my areas of interest. Therefore, it will position me in the best possible form to pursue my legal ambitions.
Why I need your help
My journey as a black female and a first-generation university graduate has not been easy. Despite these barriers and the financial struggles that I faced as an international student in recent years, my commitment to become a lawyer remains stronger than ever. I have worked so hard for this moment to come and the thought of not being able to actualise it for financial reasons is quite frankly devastating.
The deadline for accepting my offer is the end of the July which makes my situation very urgent. To accept my offer from Pembroke College and apply for a visa from the Home Office, I am required to demonstrate how I will fund this degree. It is estimated that over 1000 students like me each year who hold a postgraduate offer from Oxford have to turn it down for financial reasons. I can only ensure that this does not happen to me with your help and support.
Costs
Tuition fees: £31, 087
Go Fund Me fees: £800
Living costs: The visa restrictions imposed on international students by the Home Office limits my ability to work more than 20 hours a week. Nonetheless, I am hoping to raise some of my living costs by working longer hours outside of term time. This will be added to a donation from my sister of £1000. Hence, I have not included living costs in this campaign.
