My name is Patrick Collins and I teach 7th and 8th grade social studies at East Broad Street K8 school and I am trying to raise money for resources that the students can use. East Broad is a Title I inner city school in Savannah, GA and it serves extremely underprivileged students, many who are already 16 or 17 by these grades. We have no textbooks or just about any technology to speak of except for 3 old desktop computers that crash constantly and are not worth much of anything. These students have never had anything close to a fair shot at an education and at the very least they deserve just that. I plan to use any funds raised to order a set of workbooks and internet resources and activities package that are 650$ apiece, a printer, computers, iPads, or anything that can help them succeed. I have already donated two of my own personal iMacs to the classroom and if enough funds are raised would like to be able to buy some more used ones, which I can buy for around 400 dollars a piece. The computers are extremely useful and can make social studies interactive and not "boring". My goal is to have at least 8 computers so when we do group projects and activities there will be a 3:1 ratio. There are also credit recovery resources that the students can utilize to help get them in the grade they are supposed to be in and I plan on letting any student who is interested( there is a lot) to use the computers in my classroom to better themselves. 3000 may sound like a lot but when you think that all you are really given is some tables, chairs, and a building there is a ton to get, ONE HUNDRED percent of these funds will be used for anything the students need. I also plan on creating a page to post pictures and things of my students utilizing resources in the classroom and I will let everyone know. Please understand that so many people have already given up on these KIDS and if you want to make a difference this is an excellent way weather it be moral support, class visits, donated goods, monetary donations, literally ANYTHING please let me know. You can make a difference to somebody CLOSE to home that just needs support and a fair shot. Anything helps, if you believe in this cause even if you can't donate money, like I said before, please contact me if you are able to give any of your time or anything, I am also setting up a group of students to learn real world skills so if you need any kind of work in your home or your car give me a call and we can come get the business and learn valuable skills. Please contact me [phone redacted].
UPDATE: WOW the original goal was hit after about 12 hours and I can't believe all the support thank y'all so much. I went ahead and bumped it up for my next project after books, computers, and a printer, (which should be covered now) I think a used set of iPads would help a lot and there are all kinds of awesome interactive social studies things you can do on there and quizzes (and the books that are now possible come with online resources and copies too) and I can get them for around 200 for newer ones used. If anyone has an old used iPad they don't use any more and would like to donate it please give me a call, text, or message.
THANK YALL SO MUCH, I really can't believe it and I promise I will make yalls donations go as far as humanly possible and it really feels great knowing y'all are behind these kids. THANK YOU
