Ease the Education

Donation protected
Summary:
The Himalayan topography of Nepal makes it extremely difficult for Nepali children to carry on with their educational dreams. Generally, a 3-4 hour walk to-from school has been the norm as far as most of us can remember. Schools severely lack support or funds to provide any form of transportation to their students who can’t rely on the uncertainty of public transportation either. The walk, therefore, is the only option for students to attend classes, making a school day extremely long and exhausting. It has also been a significant hindrance to convincing reluctant parents who will use every bit of excuse to keep children home (especially girls) and deny their fundamental right to education.

Goal:
This project aims to raise funds to buy a school bus for the children in the remote village of Nuwakot, Nepal. The trifold goal would be to encourage remote area children to attend school, save time in their long commutes, and keep them safe in the process.

Story and Project:
Like in many developing nations, in Nepal, boys are given more priority over girls in all areas of life, and education is no exception. Our organization, Daya Nepal, was established in 2013 with the goal of supporting girls in their educational endeavours. Over eight years, we are proud to have sponsored over 60 young girls in various schools in Nepal.

In 2020 Daya Nepal sponsored 17 students in Nuwakot, which is a 5-hour drive from the capital city of Kathmandu. All 17 children attend Deurali School, which has a total of about 300 students, and Deurali happens to be a popular and the only reliable school in that area. Most of the students walk to school for 2-3 hours (one way) on a daily basis. If they’re lucky, they might be able to catch the overcrowded buses travelling to-from Kathmandu. This makes students' commute to school uncertain even on the best of days, let alone in adverse weather conditions, including the long monsoon season. The frequent consequence of this long, irregular and uncertain commute leads to missed classes and late arrivals to schools. Despite such odds of attending school, the resiliency of the students to make it work has inspired us to take up this project and raise funds to buy a school bus for the students of Deurali School.

Project Collaboration:
For this project, we are collaborating with Everest Expedition’s project called “Tilicho Motorcycle Expedition.” Tilicho Motorcycle Expedition is the world's first motorcycle summit to one of the highest & biggest glacial lakes in the world. The expedition was initiated by Everest Motorcycle Expedition with founders Nitesh Shahi & Nikhil Thakuri and is aimed to be one of the best upcoming documentary movies. This courageous ascent of up to 5200 meters on a motorcycle (where there is no access to the roadway or any means of transportation exists) will also promote Nepal tourism to thrill-seekers worldwide and grow Nepali adventure tourism to new heights. Along with its adventure-promoting goals, this documentary will also shed light on students' journeys and the everyday struggles of Nepali youths while also showcasing the remote and raw natural beauty of the country. With DAYA Foundation, Everest Motorcycle Expedition is ready to showcase their adventure, raise funds for children, and support those who are still unable to pursue their education safely and efficiently.

With your generous help, we aim to raise $25,000 to help buy the school bus for the children of Deurali School.
