Earthquake victims in Western Nepal

There are several houses beyond repair.

The children of the community have been struggling due to the infrastructural damage as well as the psychological impact from multiple earthquakes and loss of life.

Majority of the people continue living in tents.

UPDATE (December 5,2023): People continue to live outside due to the damages to their houses. The cold has already taken six lives, including the life of a 1-month baby. Our volunteers and team are preparing to provide support in Jajarkot district over the next two weeks. We will be distributing blankets ($15 each) and food. Any support counts and goes towards saving lives of children and families. We will continue to update with more details. We are grateful to have a global community of support in these times of need.

Tremors that could be felt as far as 500km (310 miles) away from the epicenter of a 5.7 magnitude hit Jajarkot district of Nepal on Friday, November 3, 2023 killing at least 154 people. Another earthquake of 5.3 magnitude affected Jajarkot and Rukum District again on November 6, 2023.

About 200,000 people live in this district, scattered in remote hills. While some villages have lost many members and houses of their community, other villages remain with multiple injuries and unstable houses. Thousands of people have been forced to sleep outside in the cold weather, either due to their houses being destroyed or the fear of another shock. According to locals, over 80,000 children are in need of support.

People are left with minimal food to share among their family, lack of proper shelter, and warmth. Several projects and rescue initiatives have been started targeting different areas affected by the earthquake. Any amount helps in providing food, blankets and tents to the communities affected.

The amount collected will be sent to Starts Foundation in Nepal, a non-profit organization that has previously supported many remote communities through COVID and past natural disasters. The organization will reach out to the communities through utilization of local community volunteers and local government organizations in the affected areas. Many organizations have started their support for this area with high rate of poverty, although there is need for support in several areas that have not yet been reached.
