Eagle Festival 2020 via Eagle Spirit Eagle Pride

Tax deductible
This turned out to be a little more complicated than expected.  We are working with our parent support organization Eagle Spirit Eagle Pride to make this all work.  Read on for the details!

Stupid Covid.  This obnoxious virus has disrupted so many different parts of our lives, taken so much from us, and now it has cancelled yet another traditional event for Fairview Area Schools—the annual Eagle Festival.

This beautiful fall weekend should have supported our 14th Eagle Festival.  Fourteen years of fun, festival growth, and a LOT of money raised to keep athletes at Fairview in uniform and competing.  Last year Eagle Festival provided a record high of $11,000 to Fairview Athletics.

My Cross Country teams are in the midst of a stellar season.  They just brought the league title home and are looking forward to the post-season, even though it won’t look quite the same as it has in the past.  They have really, really enjoyed being able to have a season, a sense of something somewhat normal in a year that has been anything but.

Bottom line:  Athletics are important. They help the school culture and provide motivation for students. Athletics are important to the students who thrive and the students who just want to be on a team and belong somewhere.  They provide mentors to kids who don’t have any.  They teach life skills that are not always learned in the classroom, and they help develop lifelong friendships.

However, there will be no Eagle Festival this year.  No floats, no parade, no craft show or fun cars to look at, no pancake breakfast or BBQ dinner to enjoy….and no money to support Fairview Athletics.

No money from Eagle Festival at a time when we also are experiencing a budget crunch due to the cancellation of sports this past spring and reduced gate profits as spectators are limited.  We can’t have concession stands to raise money, and other fundraising events have also been cancelled.

Ug.  As the Eagle Festival coordinator for the past 12 years, I can’t even tell you how sad this makes me!! When I had to tell students that no, we aren’t building floats; no, there won’t be a parade; no, we aren’t having the festival this year; yes, this is one more thing that’s being taken away from you this year….I’m sad.  I’ll definitely be even more sad if the loss of the festival means the loss of a season due to a lack of money though.

Eagle Festival helps to pay for equipment and uniforms, contest fees and officials, transportation, and any other expense involved with our athletics programs.  Athletics at Fairview are self-sustaining and funded.  We get very little general fund money from the school.  Coaches either volunteer or are paid a small stipend.

So…all of that to say we’ve decided to attempt a virtual fundraiser.  We tossed around the idea of a Virtual Eagle Festival, but the events really don’t transfer to virtual easily.  I don’t know what to do with it except to beg for donations, so here it is.

We’ve started a GoFundMe campaign to try to recoup the loss of Eagle Festival profits.    Will you consider sponsoring an athlete?  Think about what you typically spend at the festival…can you donate part of that without getting anything in return?  Or, can you donate a little more to get a t-shirt commemorating this crazy year?

If you donate $50, we'll consider it an athlete sponsorship and you'll get a t-shirt out of the deal.  You can email us and tell us your sizes and shipping information. Email [email redacted] with that info (or if you have other questions!).

I’ve set the goal at $10,000.  That seems so high, but that is what Eagle Festival has brought in for the past two years.
