My Surgery for Kerotoconus

Donation protected
I'm having a cornea transplant operation in my left eye in three months, this is due to the lose of sight in my left eye because of a disease called keratoconus. I see nothing but blurred vision through this eye, it can't be aided glasses, I have recently been told the same condition I've also got in my right eye has progressed to the point, where it's almost not able to be treated with standard vision glasses anymore.

This procedure on my left eye will set me back $5000 dollars of which I will be out of pocket for by $3000 after the Medicare rebate. Once I've this procedure and this eye has recovered, and I can see through it with glasses. I also need a vitamin D cross linking laser procedure on my right eye, which has been diagnosed with the same condition. This procedure will simply stop the progression before it also requires a transplant, this procedure cost a further $2900, none of which is claimable through medicare. The kicker is that, both these procedures will not give me the ability to see without my glasses, these procedures simply prevent me from being declared legally blind and being a drain on the welfare system. After having both procedures I will merely have the opportunity to have ridge contacts fitted more easily at $1500 a pop every 18 months, that don't irritate my eyes to the point of excruciating pain, it also give me the ability to be fitted with glasses that have an easier script to fill, and give me vision in both eyes.

In the past 6 years I've had many battles with my health that have required unavoidable surgeries, I've had Bilateral Hip Replacements, Bilateral Hip Athroscopes, Bilateral Partial Psoas Releases, Bilateral Full Psoas Releases and most recently I've had Major Back Surgery after being diagnosed with a bulging disc that had progressed to a condition called Cauda Equine Syndrome, I'm currently still recovering from this latest surgery. All of these surgeries have seen me and my family incur a lot of out of pocket expenses over the past 6 years, that have left a huge hole in our budget.

We are not a well off family and I'm currently studying, working part time and volunteering the rest of my time coaching junior and senior basketball, which is a huge passion of mine. In order for me to get this next surgery, which I have no choice but to get done, I will probably have to borrow the money from family or try to get a loan and put my family into further debt with the bank. While this is very much still a option I thought I would try to set up a Go Fund me page to try and help pay for some of the costs involved with my up and coming surgery, I would appreciate any donation you can make, that can help ease some of the financial burden. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope you have a great day.
