Please Help Our Grandmother!!!

Donation protected
Our beautiful, amazing, lively grandmother suffered a fall on July 2, 2014, resulting in a fractured pelvis.  While she's at home healing, she has doctors orders for 100% supervision in order to prevent additional falls.  Before I go into the details of her care, please allow me to tell you a little bit about this amazing woman.

Our grandmother is 97 years young, and is the most amazing, inspiring woman you'll ever meet.  At 97, she was still driving (safely I might add), living in her own home, running all of her errands, taking care of her finances, and offering help to the rest of the family whenever we needed it.  In fact, one of her children is developmentally delayed and has lived at home her entire life. Her daughter (our aunt) helps keep the house clean, cooks some of the meals, and is someone for Grandma to talk to during the day.  Grandma has always been there to take care of her three children when they were sick, needed moral support, or were going through a rough spot in their lives.  Now Grandma needs us, and we just can't let her down!
Here's our grandmother and me at her 97th birthday dinner in May 2014.

During the night, on July 2nd, Grandma stood up from her bed unable to sleep.  When she stood up, she became very dizzy, which caused her to fall.  Because of background fan noise and closed bedroom doors, her daughter was unable to hear her cries for help, so that ever-determined 97 year old woman struggled for an hour, but she finally managed to get herself off that bedroom floor.

The next morning she found herself in the emergency room, and eventually admitted to the hospital with a stabilized pelvic fracture.  She spent approximately one week in a regular hospital room before being transferred to the transitional care and rehabilition unit.  Grandma spent 8 weeks there receiving physical therapy.  While she did get better, she didn't thrive there.  She was so happy to finally be released.  We honestly never thought that, at the age of 97, she would get to go home!  Again, that speaks volumes of her amazing spirit.

Now comes our struggle.  Grandma needs private home health care because her daughter isn't mentally or emotionally able to meet all of Grandma's needs.  We currently have a private CNA coming in for four hours twice a day, but we just found out that Grandma doesn't have enough money to continue to pay for that service.  Unfortunately, anyone in the family who is physically able to care for her is employed full time.  We're really in a tough spot.

We're currently only asking for your help for 8 weeks, at which time we should be able to back off on some of her in-home care.  Won't you please help us keep our grandmother safely at home with the care she so desperately needs and deserves?

God bless each and every one of you!
