2017 was wrought with injuries – due to a serious injury I had to stop crossfit; could hardly walk for weeks, let alone run. Now in the blink of an eye it’s been almost an year of no physical exercise; I am 93 kgs, well over 20% body fat (didtn even bother checking) and have lost most muscle definition.
Kerala floods happened and we witnessed the enormous human effort to provide support. Seeing fishermen swimming against current to rescue people made me wonder if I could ever take such risk or am even capable of such super human effort.
I request you to not think of this as an excuse to get back in shape, that would be utterly demeaning on my part. I have chosen to run the Amsterdam Half Marathon on 21 Oct 2018 to raise funds for the Kerala Flood relief effort and request this community’s support for it. With less than two months to prepare, in my state it will be foolhardy to attempt the full marathon.
The plan:
1. Plan out runs from now until 21 Oct. Post planned date and distance for each run
2. Post run stats upon completion of each run
3. Have this community keep me honest, call me out for not posting a run update on the designated date
My aim is to raise EUR 2000 for the relief effort; I have contributed EUR 200 to kick things off and plan to donate an additional EUR 100 for each minute under 2 hours that I complete the marathon in. The campaign is being run on gofundme and contributions will be sent via them to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (https://donation.cmdrf.kerala.gov.in/) #CMDRF. I request all to contribute – even the smallest contribution will go a long way!
