Dyslexia awareness not all about the b’s and d’s

Donation protected
During Dyslexia awareness week my daughter’s class are running a sponsored swim. On 8th October a small group of classmates (9/10yr olds) will be lane swimming for an hour to raise money to make a difference to all children at The Priory School.

Current studies show that 1in10 children are dyslexic meaning 12-15% of the population are dyslexic. However there is a huge spectrum of dyslexic difficulties, which lots of children face without ever being diagnosed.

It’s not always the case that you just put your b’s and d’s around the wrong way or make consistent spelling mistakes. Children encounter speech and language barriers, have poor working memories and sometimes face starting the day having to learn everything all over again.

A dyslexic brain has to work 5 times harder than a non-dyslexic brain.

There are so many people living with this special and unique learning perspective and they never quite receive the support they deserve. So this is where Year 5 wants to make a difference to our school environment.

It is not a standard requirement for provisioned school training and sometimes children, who have these slight or delicate differences, feel like their learning journey is full of failure. Year 5 are dedicated to raising money for our school to excel and ensure that we can use any money raised to provide specialist training for our teaching/support staff to implement methods and behavioral learning platforms for all children to succeed.

Dyslexia specific training is not just for a child who has been diagnosed; it is for all children who learn perhaps differently to the norm. I mean no one learns the same way, do they?

Year 5 want all of their peers to leave our brilliant school excited for their futures, having experienced a multi level teaching environment.

Your generous donation is gratefully appreciated to ensure all staff receive this training we would need to raise £1200....  all donations are gratefully appreciated - thank you for helping us make a difference.

Thank you
