Help keep my dream alive

Donation protected
I never expected to have to ask for help again... But it seems as if every time I get one step ahead there is another obstacle to cross... There have been days that I have thought about giving up but people keep telling me I'm tough and I'm a fighter... Which helps give me the strength to go on...

Here is my story:
Nine years ago, I fell in love with Jamaica. The people, culture and nature immediately drew me in! I loved the island so much I visited 15 times and dreamed of living in Jamaica one day.

In 2012, like thousands along the eastern coast of the United States, Hurricane Sandy destroyed my home and all my possessions. Despite my health challenges and the uncertainty that comes after a hurricane, I remained hopeful. I saw the devastation as a spark to start over in the place I've always loved: Jamaica.

Initially, it wasn’t easy for me to start a new life in my new home, but I have established myself in Negril, made many friends, and my health has improved. I cannot imagine anywhere else in the world I would rather be! After 5 ½ years (3 years of which I managed the well-known Bourbon Beach Hotel), I have found my purpose and happiness in Negril. I enjoy meeting visitors from around the world and I take pride in showing all the beauty, nature and culture my adopted home of Jamaica has to offer to visitors every chance I get.  I strive to give back to the local community some of what has been given to me over the past few years by helping small businesses grow and increase their income. I love to see visitors love Jamaica as much as I do!

In 2016, I applied for a work permit which was approved. After that I started my residency application... I thought I was near the end but everything here in Jamaica takes time... Therefore I have to do another work permit to cover me during the time my residency is being processed.

Unfortunately, once again much of my savings has been exhausted through fees and travel across the island to submit government paperwork. Now faced with another immigration deadline, I must come up with $190,000 JMD (approximately $1,500 (USD) for fees, stamp in passport, travel expenses to Montego Bay & Kingston, etc) within three weeks to complete immigration paperwork and stay in Jamaica.
