Help for Ben Leney

Donation protected
Ben Leney is a 35 year old husband and dad to 2 young boys aged 6 and 3. He has a love for extreme sports, biking & motorcycling to name but a few. He is very much and outdoor guy, always out in the garden with his boys or taking them on nature walks and bike rides.

In 2019 he went to the doctor for an issue with his knee, which was later found to be Osteosarcoma. A rare type of cancer (Fewer than 20,000 cases per year in UK) that can grow in connective tissue like bones, nerves, muscles, tendons, cartilage and blood vessels of the arms and legs.

Later that year he had a femur / knee replacement. After further checks the cancer was found to have spread. He was found to have nodes on his lungs which were treated with Chemotherapy. Although, during treatment Ben was complaining of hip and back pain, after scans it was found that Ben had lesions (small tumours) on his right hip and his spine, however treatment continued and reduced the tumours.

From this he was growing stronger and becoming more outgoing once again. He was then hit one night with a huge seizure and was taken back into hospital.
Due to the current coronavirus lockdown this was an extremely difficult time for both him and his family as they were unable to visit or support him or each other. After coming out of hospital a week later, the seizures happened all over again and it has been discovered the cancer has spread to the brain.

Ben is currently in hospital 70miles away in London, again his family and friends cannot support him or each other during these times.
Until now he has been lucky enough to have his treatment covered by his health insurance but these funds are running low, he still needs further treatment. He may also require assistance when he comes out of hospital and may need physical alterations to his home so as to make life more manageable for him and his young family.

This is a family who are incredibly private and proud, for them to agree to accept financial assistance from friends and family is a big thing to them. This fund raiser has 2 purposes to raise the funds to assist this family at this time but also to raise awareness to this rare type of cancer. We will be carrying out a series of sponsored events where we would like to ask for contributions.

To support this Simon will be attempting to run the equivalent to a marathon a week for 8 weeks starting Monday 4th May 2020.
