Hello I am MarShene' Henderson and I am a senior Applied Nutrition/ Pre-Med major at the University of Delaware (UD). Although my journey at UD has been one of the most amazing experiences in my life, there have also been some challenges. As a first generation college student, my family has sometimes struggled financially. However, with hard work and dedication, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! I will be completing my degree in 2015; but before I do, I would love to take advantage of this four-week study abroad program in Barbados during the Winter of 2015.
The study abroad program in Barbados offers participants the opportunity to explore Barbados while providing service to local communities. While in Barbados, I will be enrolled in courses including: HDFS 367 (Culture in Context), HDFS 334 (Experiential Education), and HDFS 365 (Experiential Learning).
I am currently supporting myself through school and rely on student loans. Unfortunately, I did not receive any financial aid or study abroad scholarships to participate in this program. However, I would hate to miss out on this first-time experience to travel out of the country. As Matthew 7:7 states, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”. I created this page because I am passionate about this experience and I am willing to do whatever it takes to make this possible. Will you help me?
The cost for this trip is estimated at $8,000. The break down is as follows:
Expenses
Estimated Tuition $1,985.00
Estimated Program Fee $4,500.00
UD Registration & Activities Fee $30.00
Meals, Transportation, etc. $2,000.00
To date, I have managed to pay a $2,000 deposit with money from summer employment and donations from family members. I truly would appreciate any donations made to help me fund this once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you in advance for your support!
