Bryan Alpha's Leukemia Expenses

Donation protected
Three weeks ago, Bryan went in for an annual physical. His blood test showed critically low white blood cell counts and platelets and his red blood cells were a little low. His doctor ordered a bone marrow test to find out why his counts were so low. The doctor called the next day to let Bryan know the preliminary results showed he had Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. He was told to immediately check into MD Anderson Cancer Center.

The doctors at MD Anderson did another bone marrow biopsy to confirm the diagnose before beginning chemotherapy. The results confirmed he had APL. Bryan's cancer is completely treatable and his treatment has a 90% success rate. However, he will have to endure cancer treatments for the next eight months to two years.

Bryan is going to be hospitalized for the next three to four weeks. The doctors will then order a new bone marrow biopsy to determine if he has less than 5% of cancer cells left (remission). Once he reaches remission, he will be released from the hospital and will start outpatient chemotherapy Monday to Friday for the next eight months to two years. He will also have two other prescription medications he will be taking at home daily.

These funds will help our family tremendously. We just purchased a home and have two beautiful boys. I am the only one working at this time due to his hospitalization. After Bryan is discharged from the hospital, he will be unable to work for many reasons. His job is very physically demanding and he will be unable to lift anything heavy due to his PICC line. To get rid of all of the cancer cells, he will be required to go 5 days a week to get chemotherapy which gives him migraines and makes him weak.

All of his medical expenses are starting to add up fast. The pharmacy called to start filling his prescription so that it is ready when he is released from the hospital and the co-pay for one of the medications he needs is $2621.23. I have not been contacted for the other.

Any and all help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Bryan Alpha has always been the type of person that will be there for you if you need him. He is starting to worry about the financial situation he is putting his family in and I need him focused on healing and getting better. We appreciate all the love, support and prayers. And are very thankful for all of you walking this journey with us!
