At 10 1/2 years old Dustin Smith started losing his hearing. Medical tests and several trips to Duke offered no conclusive answers for why this was happening. Today, he has adapted to life without sound, each day faithfully heading to his job to provide for his wife and three precious children who have beautiful little voices he's never heard.
For several years he's been a candidate for a cochlear implant, but his health benefits do not include coverage for this extremely expensive procedure. As a result, the costly surgery has not been an option. Miraculously, thanks to his parents' pastor's efforts and the faithful daily prayers of his grandfather and others who love him, the way is paved for Dustin to have surgery on February 19th. Some of the extreme financial burden of this procedure is lifted, but there is still a tremendous price to pay in order for this to happen.
Dustin will be out of work without pay during his recuperation and will not have any insurance coverage for the remaining portion of this surgery. My hope is that friends and family will help financially by clicking the link to donate any amount (no contribution is too small and every penny is humbly appreciated and will go toward covering the costs associated with this surgery and recovery). One more request, will you pray for this surgery to be successful? There are no guarantees of success, but we have to believe that the way things have happened so far are evidence of God's blessing--and your prayers are very appreciated. In whatever way you participate, thank you for helping make this life-changing surgery for Dustin a reality.
