Fight for Alfie

Donation protected
Hi I have set this page up for my sister Hollie Barr... We are running a charity boxing event for the Children's Kidney Fund Northern Ireland. The show will be in the Devenish at Finaghy on the 6th of July. We are running the show because my nephew Alfie has been battling Chronic Kidney disease from he was born and the fund do amazing things for him and everyone in it. So we want to give something back because they have done so much for him.
Read Hollie and Darrel's story!
"On the 9th of September 2016 I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy Alfie, we brought Alfie home that evening thinking he was perfectly healthy. Everything was normal for the first 7 days. But on the 16th of September are life's changed...
We had just fed Alfie and we were ready to put him to bed then all of a sudden he took a bad turn stopped breathing, he went blue our hearts raced,  we froze in shock... I have never felt so scared in all my life, we couldn't bring Alfie round we thought we were going to lose him, my mother rushed into the room and phoned the ambulance and then performed CPR on Alfie and finally got him breathing again, the ambulance response time was under 5 minutes but felt like 500 minutes as Alfie was drifting in and out of consciousness.
we had to rush down to the Royal Victoria Hospital, we were admitted into Paul ward where they took Alfie's bloods. But it wasn't until the next day we got his results. The doctor came over to us and she looked very confused, she explained to us that Alfie's body was poisoning itself and they didn't know why, and couldn't understand how he looked so healthy.
They took numerous tests and scans until they found out that his kidneys never developed properly and diagnosed him with Chronic kidney disease. He was rushed straight to Intensive Care Unit and they told us to get our family's to come down, we automatically thought the worst. But he is a fighter and never gave up he had to stay in the hospital for 2 months where he made an unbelievable recovery and battled it for over 2 years before he needed dialysis.
Alfie now gets dialysis 3 times a week and gets fed through a peg tube at night time.
Alfie is now awaiting a kidney transplant and I am hoping that either myself or his dad Darrel can donate our kidney to him within the next year.

Also helping us raise money for the fund is Anne Crawford. Anne has her own tragic story and has done amazing raising over £8000 for the fund Read Anne's story below..

"In May 2017 we lost our beautiful baby boy Luke Crawford to kidney and liver failure at the tender age of 11 weeks. In his final few weeks Luke’s care was undertaken by the Renal Unit in the Royal Victoria Children‘s Hospital, Belfast. A medical enigma Luke challenged and fought to his last breath. The staff went , and continue to go in their research, above and beyond their call of duty.

During his time in the Renal Unit we saw the lives of so many children and their families dominated by the many causes of kidney failure . Happy, Smiley children who know no other way of life other than spending their time in hospital, undertaking treatment and awaiting transplants.

The Northern Ireland Children‘s Kidney Fund supported us during this time and continue to support the many many families and children in renal care need.

As an independant charity children and families benefit directly; the purchase of dvd players, gaming devices, games help relieve stress, boredom during hospital stays or dialysis isolation. Laptops and tablets are provided to allow children to keep up with school work.

The Fund contribute to expenses caused by additional lengthy stays as well as allowing childrens teams to attend the British Transplant Games. Families are subsidised to allow family breaks and help given to facilitate home care.

Funding is also provided for research and training."
