Duncan Field and Hastings American Legion Baseball will be hosting the 2019 and 2020 American Legion Mid-South Regional

Each year, the iron gates at Duncan Field open on February 1st for the first practices of the spring season and remain unlocked thru early August as the Hastings American Legion teams and our local collegiate league wrap up their summer seasons. All in all, over 150 games are played on the diamond-nearly 50 more games per year than the average baseball field.

Duncan Field serves the community as a tourist site and one of the most desired baseball venues in the Midwest. While the increase in traffic at Duncan Field has been welcomed and supported by the entire Hastings community, the added stress to the playing surface has made it nearly impossible to maintain a quality product throughout the baseball months.

In addition to the deteriorated field condition, each season games and practices are lost due to weather related events.  Practices are moved to make-shift venues in an attempt to lighten the load at Duncan Field.  One team has even lost the ability to play their regular season games at Duncan as the field cannot handle the normal wear and tear of their game and practice schedules.

In an effort to maintain the integrity of Duncan Field, and to utilize the facilities for the exact reason it was recently renovated, a campaign to install field Astro-Turf to the infield playing surface has been launched.

BENEFITS OF FIELD TURF INCULDE:
* Annual Maintenance savings of over $15,000
* A quality playing surface which can handle 150+ games/year
* Return of American Legion Warriors regular season games to Duncan Field
* Return of Little League games to Duncan Field
* No loss of games/practices due to weather.

When Duncan Field was remodeled in 2014 nothing was done to the playing surface, parts of the surface were harmed due to the construction equipment which had to drive over parts of the grass during the remodel. Making it difficult to grow quality grass after the construction was finished.

Astro-Turf fields in Nebraska are becoming the solution for programs with similar issues.  The following high school/American Legion programs are currently benefitting from field turf.
* Kearney
* Millard North
* Omaha Central
* Omaha Creighton Prep
* Omaha Westside

Programs installing Astro-Turf in the fall of 2018 include
* Bellevue West
