Dunc's Fundraiser Campaign

This is an urgent appeal on behalf of our dear friend Duncan to fund an alternative treatment for his cancer

They say the worst things happen to the best people. This is Duncan’s story.

Duncan was diagnosed with stage four cancer in the liver and colon on March 2018. He is 46 years old. Knowing Duncan as we do he has been constantly positive, brave and pragmatic.

After two rounds of chemotherapy starting in April and ending in October 2018 the tumours had receded and had shrunk from the largest 13cm plus in his liver to half its original size. We nearly lost him in November when an operation to remove a blockage due to an impassable recto sigmoid tumour meant a stay of over 3 weeks in hospital for what should have been a straightforward op – not a lot, it would seem, is straightforward due to his illness.

When a much loved friend is approaching the diagnosis that we all secretly fear with such determination and self-deprecating humour you sometimes forget that this is real.

Sadly, following the recovery time from the op, we are back at square one and all that ground has been lost. It is now very, very real.

He would like to see his two year old son on his first day at school; he would like to release his devoted wife from her ceaseless care and live normally, even for a short while and he would like to watch his daughter perform her singing and dancing routines on stage at school.

Dunc’s oncologist has given the go ahead to re-start the chemo and Duncan would like to explore some alternative therapies alongside this, primarily

Through a mountain of research, we believe we have found an alternative to the invasive chemo and one which is, like most alternatives, not currently available on the NHS. Ozone therapy (something that is commonly practised alongside chemotherapy in countries suck as Austria and Germany) is used to disinfect and treat diseases by limiting the effects of bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast, and protozoa. It is also used for stimulating the immune system to speed up healing - something that the chemo has a negative affect on.

The treatment is likely to cost around £7500 but like many of us at this time in our lives, and with Dunc not been able to work for the last 6 months, this is beyond his financial reach.

So we’re going to raise it for him. Our ideal target is £5000 so that he can be given every opportunity of beating this cruel and unfair illness he is enduring – we’re organising various other events to collect as much together as we can and one of our friends is running the London marathon this year to raise awareness and much needed funds.

The quicker we can reach the target the sooner Dunc can begin his road to recovery.

If you’ve been touched by Duncan’s story please consider donating however small an amount you can spare and please give a thought to sharing to your friends too.
