Dufner Family Harvey Relief Fund

For the benefit of the
Dufner Family and the Canyon Gate at Cinco Ranch neighborhood in Katy, TX

My parents, Dennis and Marsha Dufner and my brother Lance, along with the entire Canyon Gate community were, sadly, devastated by the flooding that accrued as a result of Hurricane Harvey this week. Monday evening the water level raised to where it began coming into their home, and the homes of those in the surrounding area. By Tuesday morning, there was over two feet of water inside and rising. My family is so grateful for the many heroic and selfless volunteers who went door to door rescuing families by boat. We also feel so thankful and blessed that they are safe from the dangers still affecting the thousands of people still in Texas and the surrounding areas. The aftermath of this destructive disaster has left them with many emotional and financial decisions that no one could have possibly predicted. My parents, like most in the community, had no flood or hurricane insurance to help cover the costs of rebuilding. They, like so many others, were only able to escape their home with an extra change of clothing. The water has reportedly only gone down two inches, at the most, since Tuesday’s peak. As a result, it will likely be weeks before people in their community are able to get back into their homes to salvage what they can and estimate the damages. Preliminary assessment estimates their property to be a total loss.

My family is very insistent that donations also be used to help neighboring families as well. As many of you know, my mom spent the last 16 years of her career in education as the Vice-Principal of Beck Jr. High School, which was also flooded this week. Many of the families of the students she educated also live in the Canyon Gate neighborhood.
