Duck’s Luck: That ship has sailed ‍

On April 1, 2021, our old friend / coworker Gary “The Duck” Drake, known from his many years of service at Catalyst Crofton or the famed Lucky Duck’s Pool Hall in Ladysmith, suffered what may very well qualify as the worst April Fools Day in history! After storing and repairing his boat getting ready to sell it, it was time to get it back in the chuck and see the fruits of his labors! Unfortunately, it seems that fruit wasn’t in season ‍♂️ After having it in the water for less than 24hrs, something caused the boat to catch fire at the dock in Crofton! By the time fire crews got it under control, it was too late! The boat was toast, and created enough of a stir to delay the remaining Saltspring Island ferry crossings by a half hour for the remainder of the day.  To add some salt to that wound, the boat reached its age where agencies would no longer issue insurance, so it falls entirely in his lap... with his retirement coming up in a few weeks, it was all lined up to sell the boat, and use the money generated to fund his retirement road trip, and to pick up another boat from Alberta on his way home... but it seems that wasn’t in the cards we started this page in hopes of taking away at least some of the sting this absolute catastrophe has caused, so we’re hoping anyone / everyone can donate whatever they can to help make his well-earned transition into retirement at least a little less stressful than it has become! Being such a hilarious character, I know there’s plenty of people who would love to do what they can to help, so this is your chance! Let’s help him carry on the title of “Lucky Duck”!
