Duane Sewell Memorial Scholarship

For those that were fortunate enough to know him, Duane Sewell was instantly one of the kindest and most gracious people you knew from the moment you met him. His impact was immediate when he flashed his ever-present smile. Duane combined the qualities of compassion and humility with unbounded intellect and a quiet modesty. Each of these qualities is rare. Duane possessed all of them in great abundance. Duane led an exemplary life as a friend, father, husband and physician. His passing in November 2011 was a tragic loss for anyone whose life he touched. A scholarship has been established in the memory of Duane Anthony Sewell at his alma mater, Abington (PA) High School. This scholarship will annually grant funds to a deserving graduating senior at Abington High who is intending to go to college to study to become a doctor. Our goal is to raise sufficient funds so that this scholarship can be granted each year for many years to come. This will help perpetuate Duane's memory in 2 ways. It will provide financial assistance to college-bound high school seniors who are interested in studying medicine. It will also provide the opportunity for these students to learn about Duane and his legacy, and perhaps provide inspiration for one of these students to one day play a role in making a research discovery towards a cure for gastric cancer, another form of cancer, or to make a contribution in Duane's field of otolaryngology. Please contribute to the Duane Anthony Sewell Memorial Scholarship Fund. Whether you were close to Duane or just knew him casually, please consider giving. Your contribution will help preserve Duane's memory, and provide financial assistance to college-bound students desiring to enter the medical field. Our objective is for this scholarship to become substantial enough that it will outlast all of us and that it may help result in one or more of its recipients making a meaningful contribution in the medical field one day.
