On March 26th 2018 Jamey went to ER after experiencing severe abdominal pain and vomiting blood. They performed a CT scan during this visit and sent him home with antibiotics as well as recommendations to follow up with a Gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy due to thickening in his sigmoid colon. The appointment was scheduled for April 2nd 2018. Not ONLY was this type of procedure not covered by insurance, due to it being diagnostic and not a normal screening BUT this was the day that Jamey and his wife Schelly were told that Jamey indeed had colorectal cancer. The GI doctor expressed the urgency of this situation and scheduled them with a surgeon immediately due to possible bowel blockage and the size of the mass that was blocking his sigmoid colon. Jamey and Schelly met with the surgeon and on April 3rd 2018 just a day later ,Jamey was in surgery to remove the cancerous mass blocking his colon. After removing 10inches of Jamey’s colon and the mass he also removed 18 lymph nodes, which he sent off for further testing. All seemed well! Recovery had began, the surgeon was confident and happy with the results, as well as Jamey’s constant drive and quick recovery.

BUT that did not last long. On April 10th Jamey and Schelly received the news that Jamey had STAGE 3 colon cancer and it had spread into his lymph nodes and they would need to see an oncologist to discuss further options.

Not only is this news disheartening enough, but Jamey and Schelly are also faced with financial challenges along the way. As many of yall know, healthcare coverage is not always as helpful as we would like. They have had to pay over $4500 dollars in deductibles in order to receive surgery as well as pay $50 each time he has to see a specialist of any kind , and to top things off he will be out of work indefinitely.
This is a burden that no one should have to worry about, while they endure such a hard trial in their life!

As friends we look at eachother and say how can we help! What can we do! WE do what we all do best in the softball community and friends/family, yall! WE RALLY !!! Help us help this amazing family ! Thank you all so much for reading. God Bless
