Educate, Empower and Enhance

Donation protected

Cat and I are now in Kenya visiting the projects and working with the wonderful women who set up the Amara Charitable Trust.

Already they have transformed 15 schools so children no longer have to be educated in classes such as these but in safe environments where learning can take place.

Already they have transformed 15 schools so children no longer have to be educated in classes such as these but in safe environments where learning can take place.

Alongside the classes being built, a new kitchen and vegetable garden is made to supplement the daily meal of maize, rice and lentils.  Often the only meal of the day,  Amara now feeds over 4,000 children in their schools. The schools are now full of kids and all eager to learn.  A little difficult when you have 40 - 50 kids in a class but they are happy, hardworking and so keen.  They recognise the potential future they could have with the help of the Amara charity.

These are the forgotten schools. Most of them are so rural that kids don't bother to come to school and who would want to if you were being taught in a class such as the one above.  I know.  I have witnessed such classrooms!

Catriona and I  were asking for your help; even a small donation that would contribute to ensuring the next school to be built has a vegetable garden ( £1,523) and a 10,000-litre water tank (£533).  As you can see, our target has been exceeded and we are able to provide the new school with these but they still need much, much more.  We'd like to be the ones who help to provide the maize or beans or rice so the next set of kids can have a daily meal.

Everything grown goes into the pot!

Children who previously did not come to school now come to enjoy lunch and Amara regularly feeds over 4,000 children.

Everywhere we have gone the kids have been happy and cheerful, singing and dancing.  They are want to learn and through the feeding programme that Amara provides: they come to school and are doing really well.

We were lucky enough to be included in a workshop for sanitary pads by Madhvi Dalal.  She gives her time freely to teach about menstrual health and has workshops for the girls and boys making sanitary pads.  Who knew sanitary pads took over 500 years to decompose!!  She teaches the girls to sew soft cotton pads which are not only beautiful, reliable, sustainable, save lots of money and won't add to the plastic mountain on our planet!!

The children are doing well. Please, can you help us to make their lives just that little bit better?

Any donation, no matter how small, will contribute to a garden, maize, beans, rice, uji in the next school.    Every penny is very much appreciated and will do so much to educate, empower and enhance the lives of the children in this area.

Much love
