Please help us support local Drag Artists. COVID-19 has impacted the ability or many Drag artists to perform. Restaurant and bar closures mean that many artists are unable to earn an income. We need your help to support local Drag artists in the Greater Toronto Area.
The Drag Academy is a collective of local drag performers. The Academy elevates Drag as an art form. Members of the collective share their expertise in immersive courses. The courses are designed for those with zero experience with Drag and those in the industry for years.
The Drag Academy features local drag artists who will share their expertise in some aspect of Drag. The performers are diverse and reflect the diversity and history of Drag. Our classes are immersive, meaning that you participate along with the instructor. They will be able to give critical feedback and answer any questions that you may have in real-time.
We need your help to support local artists during COVID-19. Your donation will go directly to local queer artists. 100% of proceeds will support the Academy in the following ways:
1. Instructor Fees: This will support artists now. Our faculty comprises of amazing Toronto-based queer artists. Each artist receives an honorarium for sharing their expertise at that Academy.
2. Scholarships: Donations will support a full scholarship to the program. In Fall 2020, we were able to provide 55 scholarships to local youth. Our goal is to offer scholarships to 100 young people in our Spring session.
3. Curriculum Development: Your support will help us develop new courses that further explores drag culture while engaging with performers.
4. Content Creation: Your donation will support local artists to create original content. Artists will apply for funding to create innovative content. This includes our upcoming podcast "Gender Journey".
