I'm Jay Wimer. I live in Chama New Mexico, a small town with only one industry, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic railroad, to drive the sad economy. Unfortunately, the railroad does not attract enough passengers to keep businesses viable. I intend to do something about it.
Originally, this campaign was about the Colorado Time-Table magazine, , but we didn't raise enough to get it solvent, so i sat down and took a long look at the problem. This is my attempt to solve it.
I also run the Chama Steam Freight Excursions, which has not done well due to the recent problems with the global economy. I am also the publisher of the (dormant) Colorado Timetable, which I dream of resurrecting. My contribution to the world is taking large-format back and white photographs of the Chama region and the train.
If you already know me, you know that I have been fighting the fight of my life to stay ahead of foreclosure and keep food on the table. I make no secret of that, but THIS campaign has a much broader scope. I am truly determined to try to do something to jumpstart the local economy.
The money will be used to
Set up a non-profit organization to address the insane problems with the economy in Chama.
1: Set up the Non-profit.
2- Address the lack of a radio station
3- Address the lack of a real newspaper
4- Get a solid marketing program going for the Chama region and its attractions
5- Set up a shuttle service to regional airports
6- Set up a local transportation system or "jitney" so that tourists can come here without a car. This would also be useful for ferrying Hikers on the Continental Divide trail.
7- Set up some other forms of recreation for visitors, other than the railroad.
8- Revive the Colorado Time-Table magazine
9- Continue growing the Chama photography project

That's big list, and I know it. But when people work together to make things happen, big things WILL happen.
