Dr. Manuel Antonio Lopez Benitez is a wonderful young man in Honduras, just 30 years old, a doctor, and a real asset to his community. His kidneys are failing, and he needs a transplant. He has a donor for the kidney, but only a little more than half the money needed (about US$40,000) for the actual procedure, which is not covered under the shambolic public health system in Honduras. He is on daily dialysis now and his condition is deteriorating, although he still works and keeps cheerful and busy. Please don’t let this excellent young man die for lack of money, especially in a country in such need of hard-working medical professionals.
His uncle is a good friend of my sister’s, who vouches for his family as upstanding and hard working. Dr. Toño’s mom is an office manager at a local clinic—she is the one to whom the funds will be given to administer. Even though you may not know him, please consider helping. Unless he gets this surgery, he is in danger of dying. Let’s not let that happen.
