My mom's battle with breast cancer

My mom raised my brother and me as a single mom, working as a nurse taking care of mentally ill adolescents and terminally ill and disabled children. She has spent most of her life caring for others as if they were her own family. She volunteers, and gives her all to help others.

During breast cancer awareness month, my mom went in for a mammogram and they found a lump. After a biopsy, we received the terrible news…. She has breast cancer.

Working in the medical field, unfortunately, many of the nurses and technicians work for agencies that offer minimal insurance benefits and almost no paid time off. This is the case for my mother. Now that the lump has been removed, we are looking at grueling radiation treatments that will not allow her to work taking care of the children that she loves to care for every day, which means no income. Even with what I can offer to help her with, without any income during these treatments, she will struggle to make ends meet as she is also putting my disabled 19 year old brother through college.

She has spent her life taking care of others, now she needs a helping hand to make it through this treatment by helping to pay her living expenses for two months so she can focus on her recovery and get back to doing what she loves the most- taking care of others.
