The purpose of this fund raiser will be to purchase a Search and Rescue Drone to assist the family and law enforcement in our search to FIND KRISTY.
A Search and Rescue Drone is an unmanned aircraft used by emergency responders, ideal for searching vast areas for missing persons and crime victims in need of rescue. Aerial search for missing persons is extremely costly with traditional fixed winged aircrafts and helicopters. Small, highly maneuverable unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV or drone) may aid in the search efforts in many situations for a fraction of the cost or risk, and resources.
The Drone will have the capability of “looking down” with a high resolution video camera to survey and search an area. Via on-board video recorder or first person view (FPV) technology, we can survey extensive terrain in real time. (Imagine flying INSIDE the cockpit and having an Angels view) Average flight times for these all electric drones is usually somewhere between 10-25 minutes giving the pilot enough time with several batteries to scan an area miles in diameter using a zig-zag sweep pattern or expanding spiral search pattern. One drone can search an extensive area in minutes that might take an entire group of ground personnel to cover in hours.
Although the Drone will help us cover a massive amount of area in a short time, there are many areas that have too much cover (trees and vegetation) that we still need volunteers to help search. A Drone is not intended to replace ground personnel, because they are desperately still needed, but more to assist them. By utilizing the Drone in specific areas, the ground personnel will be able to focus on the covered areas. This will help us eliminate areas quickly and find her vehicle or her faster.
This is not only a way to help Find Kristy but also others in the future. Lost children, hikers, Alzheimer’s patients that have wondered off, crime victims, fire and rescue…..the list goes on.
