Matching Funds Opportunity!

Volunteers of America is building a wheelchair ramp for Doug in mid-November.  Labor is donated; we pays for supplies (@$800). 


Doug's brother Jim will match anyone's donation up to a total of $400.00 as an incentive for donors to have greater impact. 


Backstory:

Doug has had a progressive neurodegenerative disease for @18 years and cancer for the last 2.5 years. The cancer started as a skin growth, progressed to lymph nodes, then blood and lungs. It has recently moved swiftly to the bones, particularly the hips, ribs and all but a few vertebrae in his spine. Bone cancer can cause loss of use of legs, arms, etc. very quickly depending on tumor location. Doug fell Saturday, Sept.  22 from intense pain in his leg and spent almost a week at PVH. He's homebound now, regaining strength for radiation.

Wheelchair ramps make the obvious impact of safe mobility.  Having a ramp and wheelchair can also make the difference between being released home from the hospital next time, or to rehab, which could potentially cause him to forego cancer treatments. We want to him to be home and have the opportunity for continuous treatment.

 After several immunotherapy drugs couldn’t back down the cancer, Doug is undergoing a remarkable new treatment with T-VEC and Keytruda and will start radiation in a few weeks. If it works, we’ll know in @ two months, and the future could be amazing. If not, we maybe have nine months to a year or so according to a foggy crystal ball. 

HOWEVER, every day on the planet is a better day to have a terrible disease (or two), so we're not considering throwing in the towel as odds of survival are unknown, especially with new treatments.

Funds raised will be put to powerful and frugal use.
