Doug Olson Memorial Youth Hockey Scholarship

Donation protected
On May 2nd, 2021, we suddenly lost our husband, father, brother, uncle, colleague and friend.  He will leave behind many things; most notably, a passion and zeal for life and all things hockey.  He played it, coached it, followed it and lived it.  More importantly, it truly helped to mold him into the driven leader and passionate man that we all love.

Doug played for the Chicago Minor Hawks for 7, before moving to Canada in 1975 to play under head coach Sherry Bassin for the Pickering Panthers.  He was then recruited by Bill Selman at St. Louis University and played there from '76-'78 until the hockey team folded.  In 1977, Doug had the incredible honor of representing his country and and captaining the U.S. Junior National Olympic team in Czechoslovakia.  Shortly after, he was proud to have been invited to try out for the famous 1980 US Olympic team ("Do you believe in miracles?"), but was not chosen to be on the roster.   In 1979, coach Ron Mason brought Doug to Bowling Green State University to play for the Falcons.   After college, Doug went on to develop a successful sales and management career with the support of his wife, Tina, and three sons, Danny, Chris and Michael.  After many additional years enjoying the sport he loved,  3 hip surgeries took Doug off the ice.

Growing up, it was difficult for Doug's parents to afford travel hockey.  They always found a way to make it work, but it was never easy.  This is something Doug was grateful for until the day he died.

We can think of no better way to honor him than to pass along this same opportunity to other young hockey players in need.  We hope that this scholarship will aid families who would otherwise struggle to fulfill their child's hockey dreams.  Please join us in spreading the joy of hockey to other young players, and in honoring Doug.

With Love,

Tina, Danny, Christopher and Michael
