DOUBLE the LOVE for Galapagos Penguins

"DOUBLE" the LOVE for Galapagos Penguins

Hello everybody!

My name is Sophie and I'm 10 years old. In 2019, I founded a non-profit association called Tunememi  to help the conservation of endangered species in the Galapagos Islands. This place is very special to me and, last year, I was able to raise and donate more than USD 4,000 for the scientific research and conservation programs of the Charles Darwin Research Station  in the Galapagos. The funds were used to tag penguins, assess the health of giant tortoises and research work on waved albatrosses.

This time, I'm running a campaign to support 20 tagged endangered Galapagos penguins! They are the only penguin species north of the equator and are threatened by climate change, marine pollution and lack of food due to overfishing.

For USD 15, you can support one tagged penguin. They are real live penguins in the wild tagged by scientists from the Charles Darwin Research Station in the Galapagos. This way, the penguins can be monitored and the necessary conservation programs can be improved or put in place.

In addition to your support, I will DOUBLE this amount. I am able to do this for 20 penguins as I raised funds selling my used clothes and toys in a children’s garage sale. I will also give you part of the special identification number (PIT-tag) of the penguin you support. I started this campaign on January 20, Penguin Awareness Day.

I'm happy to report that as of February 7, 2020, the 20 tagged penguins have received double the love through my private outreach and GoFundMe page.  I have even succeeded my goal and as of February 12, 2020, there have been 25 penguins supported. Since there are more penguins supported that I could double (since I have limited funds), my parents are helping me double the rest.

Luckily, the Charles Darwin Research Station has provided me with more penguins that are tagged so there are still a few penguins that can be supported. All the funds raised will be donated to the Charles Darwin Research Station in the Galapagos to help continue the scientific research and protection of the Galapagos penguins!

I will run this campaign until March 3, 2020, to celebrate World Wildlife Day.

Thank you very much!

Love, Sophie

This is a preserved penguin that I'm holding together with Dr. Gustavo Jimenez, Senior Researcher and Wildlife Veterinarian, at the Charles Darwin Research Station in the Galapagos.
