Dorothy Mae Peterson, 44 of Hickory, NC was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2015 that started in her gallbladder. The doctors removed half of the gallbladder but when she went back for a checkup, they seen that the cancer had moved to her the liver. As most people she began her fight with cancer full of hope and determination. Dorothy started chemo treatment which went well but when it was time for the radiation seeds, her body was unable to stand up to the assault needed to fight the cancer. Her body was far too weak and she could no longer continue the radiation treatments.
The doctor told her on the second week of August 2017 that there was nothing else could done. Dorothy was sent back with her son Zachary for hospice care and for pain control.
She has no home, no insurance, and no other assets. Her last wishes were to spend time with her family and see the beach before the end. She will leave behind 4 wonderful children who don’t understand why this is happening to their mother. Her children are Patrick Peterson 23, a graduate of the Citadel and future member of the military, Zachary King who is 25 and currently helping to take care of his mom when hospice care ends each day, Sean who is 16, and Lena who is 15, who are both in the care of a strong Christian foster family. Sean has a learning disability and requires a lot of extra help the foster family provides for him.
Her parents Wesley and Linda Peterson are unable to help due to health issues themselves and are currently in the care of her brother George and sister-in-law Tessa Peterson.
All of this has left the financial burden to Dorothy Peterson brothers, George Peterson and John Peterson. (aka) "Juan"
