Hi! My name is Anna, and this is Bethany. This is our GoFundMe page for our dear friend Doris Oberholzer. During college, Bethany and I worked for Doris and her husband, Roland, at Sasi’s Café, a small, family run business, and local favorite, in Kirkland, WA. Not only did Doris teach us how to be effective and excellent waitresses, how to appreciate food and wine, and millions of other life lessons, we also gained a new family.
Doris and Roland arrived in the Seattle area via Arizona, via Canada, via Switzerland. In the nearly three decades they have lived in Seattle, Doris and Roland have raised two beautiful and conscientious young women, Samantha, who now lives and works in Switzerland, and Simone, who has just finished her undergraduate degree and is living in Bellingham, WA.
Two years ago, Doris was diagnosed with a progressive case of colon cancer. Needless to say, we were all shocked. Throughout this process, Doris has been determined to maintain a positive outlook. She has continued to be a champion of loving life—and has inspired those around her to live life to the fullest in each and every moment.
However, cancer treatments are expensive. Despite Doris’s strength and positive outlook, there are a LOT of out of pocket costs not covered by insurance. Invasive treatments, while effective at killing cancer cells, have taken a toll on Doris’s overall health and ability to work during this time.
Bethany and I are reaching out to the larger community in order to raise money to help pay for Doris’s additional medical expenses not covered by insurance from 2016. This will relieve Doris of the added stress of trying to find the funds to pay for her medical treatments, and effectively allow her to focus on getting and staying healthy.
Our goal is $15,000.00. This money will pay off extra medical expenses not covered by insurance over the past two years of her treatment, and also anticipates medical expenses for the coming year, 2017. Any and all contributions are welcome and appreciated.
With love from the entire Sasi’s extended family,
Anna & Bethany
