Don't Get Hooked

My goal is to build a sustainable campaign, a Crusade if you will for "DON’T GET HOOKED". 

I will use my Hearse as a traveling billboard, "it realy gets peoples attention", and I will educate, enlighten and encourage people to lock up their prescription opioids. Prevention is the key. 

75% of all heroin addicts started with someone elses prescription painkillers. 

I have prescription lock boxes to give to people who truley can't afford to buy one.

Over the last six months I have been to a number of community events with the hearse, from town hall meetings to an Opioid Epidemic symposium. I see a lot of money trickeling down for treatment and recovery, which is good, but I don't think enough is being done for prevention.

Hi, my name is Doug Ireland and I recently took early retirement from being a mortician so that I could focus more attention on this opioid epidemic and share some simple prevention techniques with the public.

My oldest son Brandon, at the age of 16, became involved in drugs and alcohol. With the abundance of opiods on the market it was only a matter of time before these deadly and addictive pills fell into his hands. Sure enough, he tried these prescription opiods and fell victim to their powerful addiction like so many thousands of other americans. This soon turned into an addiction that could more easily be satisfied by the very prevalent, more powerful, and cheap drug heroin.

Well that was 18 years ago and thank God Brandon has been clean for 4 years now.

As a caring father I have been immersed in this epidemic and as a mortician I would console and council the parents who's children had just died from a heroin overdose, including one of my youngest sons good friends.

When I restored the Hearse and turned it into a Social Good traveling billboard I really got Brandon's attention. It didn't take long before Brandon had detoxed and he's been clean ever since. The Hearse conveys a very powerful message physically, subliminally and metaphorically. My original goal was to save one person, my son Brandon, and it worked. Now lets get out there and see how many more we can save and how many we can prevent from ever getting hooked.
